Catherine tells you about the city of Vienna and some of its hidden treasures

Catherine is a member of our reservations team and has been with the company for 13 years! She is well travelled and has been on many of our cruises, so she has exceptional knowledge about our destinations.

Here are Catherine's top 5 tips for everyone thinking of boarding a cruise that visits Vienna...

1 Visit the Opera- Not many people have the opportunity to visit the opera so when you're in Vienna why not take the time. If you want to do this on a shoestring, you can queue outside for 'standing' tickets. These cost a fraction of the price and you can still get a great view!

2 Alte Lake - It's a nice walk out to the Alte Lake where you can see people doing windsurfing and other water sports. Alte Lake has a nice and relaxed environment, it's a great way to spend some free time.

3 Seen this somewhere before? Something which is not obvious when visiting Hofburg Palace is that the New Castle balcony is where Hitler notoriously proclaimed that Austria was now under Nazi control.

4 Feeling Peckish? Visit Hotel Sacher Torte and you'll have the opportunity to taste this great 'cake' for which Vienna is renowned. I believe the recipe is still kept secret.

5 Still Hungry?- Visit Der Demel; Probably one the most amazing bakers and confectioners in Vienna, either opt to purchase one of the amazing creations or just peer in the window at the beautiful selection. A must.
