If in any doubt, we suggest you have a physical check-up before your holiday and discuss your journey and destination with your GP.
Tibet: If you have not already done so, speak with your GP regarding Lhasa’s high altitude (12,090 ft.), since it is not recommended for people with certain conditions. Also ask your GP how to prevent altitude sickness and request a prescription for an appropriate medication.
Russia: Ships travelling on Russia’s large lakes may exhibit ocean-like motion. If you are susceptible to motion sickness, ask your doctor for a short-term remedy for these cruise days. Tap water is not drinkable anywhere in Russia. Use only bottled/purified water when drinking or brushing your teeth. Bottled mineral water is widely available and a complimentary bottle of water per passenger is placed in the cabin each day. Additional bottles are available for purchase.
China: We use the best hotels and ships in China; precautions are taken to provide healthy meals and purified drinking water. You can be secure eating what is served to you at the hotels and onboard ship—even salads and uncooked vegetables. However, use caution when purchasing food on your own from street vendors or small restaurants. At these places, stay away from dairy products (including ice cream), or meat or fish which are not thoroughly cooked. Do not buy alcohol from street vendors. Use only bottled/purified water when drinking, brushing your teeth, or shaving. Don’t use tap water unless it is clearly marked “potable/drinkable”. Onboard your ship, a complimentary bottle of water per passenger is placed in the cabin each day. Additional bottles are available for purchase.
Innoculations & Vaccinations: Please refer to your own GP for details of current information on the required vaccinations for your holiday destination.
Travel Insurance: You must have adequate travel insurance for your holiday.
Medical Services Abroad
Europe: Medical services are available where you travel, and our ships have first aid equipment. On most European ships there is no resident doctor, but close proximity to shore allows for quick access to medical facilities.
Russia: Medical services are available where you travel, and our ships have first aid equipment; there is a resident doctor onboard our ships. Any necessary expenses are the responsibility of the patient.
China: Hotels will call a doctor upon request. There is a small clinic and a doctor onboard your ship; however, the doctor will not speak fluent English. A staff member fluent in English will assist you.
