Here are Sanne's top 5 tips for everyone thinking of boarding a cruise that visits Amsterdam...

Interested in history of beer? - Have a look in the old Heineken factory on Stadhouderskade where you will be taken through the process of turning water, malted barley, hops and yeast into one of Holland's largest export products.

Visit the Royal Palace - After nearly four years of renovations, the Royal Palace on Dam Square has re-opened its doors to the public. Be one of the first people to visit parts of the Palace that were never before open to the public.

Eat Herring Like the Dutch - Get it freshly cleaned from a market stall, sprinkle it with raw onions and pickle, grab it by the tail, tilt back your head and enjoy!

Visit De 9 Straatjes (The 9 Streets)- Built in the 17th century, are made up of small monumental houses. It's an appealing mix of cosy shops and cafes. A lovely area to wander around or enjoy a coffee along the canal.

Go Dutch - For a real taste of Dutch culture, visit the Albert Cuyp Market. Always bustling, you can really experience a mix of old and new here. If you get a chance, try a freshly made stroopwafel, I'm sure you'll love it!
